Serving Gyro at the festival.

On Thursdays throughout the summer, Kanen Bij takes over Amsterdam’s Ten Katestraat to host close to a dozen food trucks for a street-food festival specializing in dishes from around the world. Framing the small street, the food trucks lined the curbs and surrounded a stretch of picnic tables in the centre of the street. Decorated […]

Curried lentil and root vegetable soup

September 29, 2014 By Rebecca Leave a Comment

The soup that I served

It was a chilly, rainy day today and I wanted something to warm me up from the insides out.  I made this curried lentil and root vegetable soup with the hopes of eating something tasty, healthy and warming.  I wasn’t disappointed! Time required: Approximately 1 hour from prep to table. Serves: 6-8 Ingredients: 4 shallots […]

The Local Goods Market

I just love supporting local producers and checking out all of the cool things they’re creating. So when I heard that a local goods market was taking place over the weekend, I just had to check it out. The Local Goods Market at De Hallen, Amsterdam, takes place once a month and is filled with […]

Did I find the world’s biggest mushroom in Amsterdam?

September 23, 2014 By Rebecca Leave a Comment

A selection of mushrooms being sold at a market stand

While wandering through Amsterdam, I stumbled across a market selling (what appears to be) every possible variety of mushroom.  But what really caught my eye was a giant mushroom being carefully sliced into sections. Could this be the biggest mushroom in the world? Have you ever seen a larger mushroom? If so, where?

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Rebecca!
For as long as I can remember, I've dreamed of adventure and rebelled against the idea that life should follow some sort of pre-determined path. That's why, at the age of 18, I moved half-way around the world from Canada to the UK in search of new experiences. Since then, I’ve lived in three countries and travelled to nearly 20. My goal is to experience as much of the world as I can and to lead a location independent lifestyle. This blog will document my journey and, hopefully, inspire you to achieve your own goals.
